The Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) in partnership with the Women’s Refugee Commission is set to conduct a baseline assessment for an Integrated Community-Based Medical and Psychosocial Care and Gender-Based Violence Awareness Intervention for Survivors of Sexual Violence Project (The Communities Care project). The overall goal of the project is to build the global evidence base to strengthen recognized modalities for service delivery to Sexual Violence survivors in humanitarian settings and other marginalized populations by improving health service demand behaviour among Sexual Violence survivors through community sensitization on the harmful effects of Sexual Violence, benefits of seeking care, information on available services and how to access them, and improving the availability and accessibility of essential and timely medical and psycho-social care for survivors. 

The baseline assessment will utilize both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods among minors and adults. The study team therefore seeks to hire qualified personnel for the positions of Research Assistants, who will be based in Adjumani district.

Successful candidates will report to the study coordinator and study investigators. 

Position description

The overall duty of the research assistant will be to collect data and submit them electronically to the supervisor. Specifically, research assistants will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Participate fully in the training and pre-test of tools
  • Administer informed consent, conduct and complete interviews in accordance with the study protocol
  • Answer questions that the respondents may ask before or during the course of data collection
  • Collect data and participate in data management processes including validation to ensure quality data collection
  • Review data before uploading and proceeding with another interview
  • Secure storage of data according to study protocol procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of data
  • Report to the immediate supervisor any issues that affect the study
  • Provide the supervisor with daily updates including interviews completed, and any other important information about the study.
  • Participate on study team meetings throughout the study period.
  • Execute any other duties assigned by the study coordinator and the study investigators

Duration: This appointment is valid until data collection is completed.

Education Qualifications

•  A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Humanities, Public Health, Counselling or any other related discipline

Other requirements

  • Prior experience in face-to-face interviews and community-based research
  • Proficiency in English and any of the following languages: Madi, Acholi, Arabic and Dinka
  • Familiarity with the study area
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adhere to the COVID 19 Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Discipline and integrity
  • Ability to work under stringent deadlines and independently with minimum supervision
