NTD Community Awareness in Ggaba

Integrated Community Health Initiative Organisation (ICHIO) is a youth led NGO that leverages the capacity of students to provide cost-effective human resource for promoting improved water, sanitation and hygiene, as a way of preventing NTDs in slum areas next to landing sites in Uganda. ICHIO has organized activities to celebrate the first-ever World NTD Day, with support from Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi and the Global Health Strategies.

Day 1 Activities; on Wednesday, 29th Jan 2020, Davis Lecture Theatre at MakCHS, 12:00 to 2:00 PM

A. Students Voice on NTDs, with focus of Schistomiasis: A panel of students will share their understanding and perspectives on:

• The burden of NTDs and Schistomiasis in LMICs
• What is being done in terms of prevention and control
• Where is the gap and what should be done to address it

B. A panel discussion of experts in NTDs and Schistosomiasis. The experts will guide students’ views and address any knowledge gap

Day 2 Activity; on Thursday, 30th Jan 2020, Ggaba Landing site, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

C. Community awareness event on the prevention, control and treatment of schistomiasis. School-going children and community will be involved

How to get involved:

1. Attend the activities: everyone is welcome to join us in any of the activities
2. Social media engagement: comment, like and share activity updates on Twitter and Face book
3. Students Voice: selected students and recent graduates will discuss about NTDs and Schistosomiasis as described in Activity A. Interested participants should express their interest and potential by sending an email to: ichiouganda@gmail.com
