Advancing Digital Innovation in TB Care

Led by Professor Noah Kiwanuka, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at MakSPH conducted the first study in sub-Saharan Africa evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of 99DOTS, a low-cost digital adherence technology for tuberculosis treatment. Implemented at 18 health facilities in partnership with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP) and global collaborators, the study demonstrated that 99DOTS can be effectively integrated into existing TB programmes. The findings position Uganda at the forefront of digital health innovation, providing a scalable model for improving treatment adherence and strengthening tuberculosis control across the region.
