Dr. Christopher G. Orach

Dr Christopher Garimoi Orach is a Professor of Community Health. His research interests and publications include public health in complex emergencies, reproductive health, and community risk reduction. He also supervises Post – Graduate students; 20 have received Masters Degrees; Six have been awarded PhDs. He is also involved in teaching programs, courses and curriculum design. He also designs emergency response plans, provides consultancy services, and develops policy for refugee situations.

  • He is the immediate former Chair Department of Community Health and Behavioral Sciences
  • He is also an external examiner at Moi University School of Public Health, Eldoret, Kenya
  • He is a Peer Reviewer for BMC Series, African Health Sciences and the Lancet Journal

Outstanding Academic Honors and Recognition

  • 1997; Winner of the World Health Organization (WHO) Community Health Research Award by WHO Africa Regional Office; Recognition for his community study “Maternal Mortality in Gulu District using the Sisterhood Methodology” conducted in 1996, which he did as part of his studies for the award of Master of Medicine in Public Health
  • He has authored over 60 publications in Peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Consultant commissioned by Ministry of Health Uganda to develop a Safe male Circumcision Policy; he was seconded by WHO.
