Dr. Rhoda Wanyenze - Dean of MakSPH

Inspired by our three core responsibilities of training in public health, research and service delivery, our vision is to be a centre of excellence providing leadership in Public Health. Our approach to teaching is hands-on to ensure the acquisition of competencies that are relevant to the market and to deliver services to the communities, and our students are at the heart of our activities. We expose our students to real-life challenges to stimulate their creativity, problem analysis, and problem-solving capabilities. I have witnessed and lived this experience myself, as a proud alumna of MakSPH.

At MakSPH, we aim to create a vibrant innovation environment and developing solutions to benefit our communities. Over the years, MakSPH has made a tremendous contribution to public health training, research, and to the development of public health policies in Uganda and beyond—please check out our website to learn more about our work.

We have built a large network of partnerships within and outside Africa and are working towards further consolidating and expanding our partnerships. We value our partners and strive to achieve meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships. Please join us to advance our goal of enhancing the health of our communities.

Our highly qualified and dedicated staff are the engine of our success and we strive to further enhance our capabilities. The profiles of our staff can be accessed on our website and you can reach out to them for potential partnerships and other engagements.

Our alumni are a great asset to the School. Many of our alumni have taught and mentored our students and enhanced our networks. To our alumni, we value your contributions and encourage you to reach out to us. You can contact us through Rebecca Apolot, the Publicity Secretary to our alumni association at apobecca@musph.ac.ug

To our students, we would like to see you grow into critical thinkers who can generate solutions to our continuously evolving and growing public health challenges. We are delighted to feature your work and service to communities and to recognise your academic successes and innovations. Please share your ideas and work with the entire MakSPH community and our partners.

It is a great honour and privilege for me to lead and to serve MakSPH. I look forward to working with our students, alumni, staff, partners, and stakeholders to enhance our contribution to public health in Uganda and beyond. The challenges to public health are greater than ever before, with emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, endemic neglected tropical diseases in our backyard, and a rapidly growing burden of non-communicable diseases, challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, among others.

We can only overcome these formidable challenges through strong partnerships to leverage our unique and complementary capabilities.

We welcome and value your feedback. Please contact us at dean@musph.ac.ug
