This program was designed and launched by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and the World Bank in 2018 to assist Uganda in generating practical and actionable evidence for RMNCAH implementation and in strengthening the capacity of Ugandan researchers in operational research.

The MoH and the RMNCAH OR Program Advisory Committee spearheaded extensive stakeholder consultations through which research questions were identified around seven main thematic areas aligned with the Sharpened Plan. These include;

(i) Stewardship and management,

(ii) Financing;

(iii) Service delivery,

(iv) Human resources for health,

(v) Supply chain management,

(vi) Health management information systems and civil registration and vital statistics, and

(vii) Demand-side and gender issues.

Twenty-three researchers were recruited to develop research proposals on 12 topics. Data collection commenced in April 2020 with support from Makerere University School of Public Health.

All 12 studies were completed by the researchers, reviewed by the World Bank, and presented to stakeholders for validation on May 10th and June 10th, 2021. The research reports were edited, consolidated into a compendium, and are ready for dissemination to all stakeholders.
