About the study

Dumpsites in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, (KMA) (Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono) are poorly designed, overloaded and receive wastes of different characteristics including the hazardous type. Poor management of waste dumpsites such as landfills and composts raise a serious concern which could affect the health and comfort of local communities and the environment.

This has led to contamination of air, water, plants, animal products and health impacts. Previous studies in other countries have assessed the impact of dumpsite leachate on plants but not much has been done on food (water, milk) and environment especially around Kampala for the Ugandan context.

The study assessed the risk and level of heavy metal contamination of the environment (food and water) within the vicinity of dumpsites in Kampala Metropolitan Area, Uganda in order to identify appropriate interventions.

Please do not hesitate to disseminate this invitation among interested colleagues.
