The Department of Community Health and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS) , on Thursday 16th/August/2018, held an orientation session for the incoming students admitted on Masters’ Degree programs of Public Health Nutrition (MPHN) and Disaster Management (MDM), at Makerere University School of Public Health Building (MakSPH) Level 4, Lecture Room B.
The students were urged to be responsible with the time they are going to be spending pursuing their courses. “We do not want anyone to stay around for longer than they should. You should be graduating after two years, and we are committed to that because we are student-friendly”, said Dr Justine N Bukenya, a lecturer in the department, adding that missing lectures and handing in assignments late would lead to loss of marks and poor grades. She also asked the students to exhibit high personal standards as graduate students.
Dr Henry Wamani, also a lecturer in CHBS, urged the fresh students to make use of their time well and to attend all lectures as it will be of paramount importance to be available at all times. He cautioned them against thinking that lecturers would not attend to them since MakSPH has some of the most dedicated staff ever.
Speaking at the function, the Department Chair and the Deputy Dean of MakSPH, Prof Christopher Garimoi Orach urged the students to be the best since they had joined the best unit in the university. He further challenged them to read a lot revealing that some of the courses were going to be difficult unless they delve into reading from academia. He also cautioned them against chasing too many dreams at once especially work and studying.
Also present at the function was Dr Elizabeth Nabiwemba, Mr. Saul Kamukama, Ms. Hanifa Bukirwa, and several other department staff.
