Makerere School of Public Health offers a PhD programme designed to develop advanced expertise in public health research, policy, and practice. The programme is offered in two formats: PhD by Research, which emphasizes independent, original research leading to a dissertation under close supervision, and a Taught PhD, which combines structured coursework in advanced research methods and public health theory with a substantial research component. Both options aim to equip scholars with the skills and knowledge needed to generate evidence that informs policy and strengthens public health systems in Uganda and beyond.
