Kampala, Uganda — Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) today announced the launch of the MakSPH Public Health Innovation Hub, a groundbreaking initiative designed to accelerate research, strengthen community health interventions, and foster collaboration among students, researchers, and public health practitioners.
The new Innovation Hub aims to provide an enabling environment where evidence-based solutions to Uganda’s and Africa’s pressing health challenges can be developed, tested, and scaled. It will support interdisciplinary research, digital health innovations, disease surveillance technologies, and capacity-building for young public health professionals.
Speaking at the launch, the Dean of MakSPH emphasized the School’s commitment to leading transformative public health research and practice:
“MakSPH has always been at the forefront of public health innovations in the region. This Hub will strengthen our ability to translate scientific evidence into real-world solutions that improve lives and support national health priorities.”
The Innovation Hub will host a range of programs, including:
Capacity-building workshops and research mentorship
Digital health development labs
Community-based public health projects
Collaborative programs with government, civil society, and development partners
MakSPH invites stakeholders, partners, and the wider public health community to collaborate in harnessing the full potential of this initiative in pursuit of a healthier, more resilient society.
