Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), through the Department of Health Policy, Planning, and Management (HPPM), invites applications for five (5) research support scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year. The scholarships are open to Master’s students admitted to the following programmes:
- Master of Public Health Full Time (MPH-FT)
- Master of Environmental and Occupational Health (MEOH)
- Master of Health Services Research (MHSR)
These scholarships are intended to support data collection for students conducting research in health systems strengthening, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: leadership and governance, health information systems, health technologies and supply chains, human resources for health, health financing, and service delivery.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be admitted and registered in the MPH-FT, MEOH, or MHSR programmes for the 2025/2026 academic year at Makerere University School of Public Health.
- Have successfully completed Year One with a CGPA of at least 4.0 and be progressing to Year Two in 2025/2026.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in health systems strengthening, with evidence of leadership potential and academic or professional achievement.
- Submit a well-written Master’s dissertation concept (maximum 4 pages, Times New Roman, font size 11, single-spaced) including:
a) Background
b) Research problem
c) Research hypotheses and/or conceptual framework
d) Specific objectives
e) Summary of methods
f) Data analysis plan
Applicants whose proposed research addresses health systems issues in policy, regulation, governance, information systems, supply chains, human resources, financing, or service delivery will have an added advantage.

Application Process
Eligible students should submit the following documents as a single PDF file to recruitment@musph.ac.ug, with the email subject line:
“Application for a Master’s Degree Students’ Research Support in HPPM.”
The file must include:
- A 1-page typewritten application letter addressed to the Dean, MakSPH.
- A signed and stamped testimonial showing academic performance during Year One.
- Copies of relevant academic transcripts, including the bachelor’s degree.
- A copy of the national identification card.
- A 4-page Master’s dissertation concept (as described above).
