THE AFRICA DIGITAL HEALTH INNOVATION AND RESEARCH CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

Background

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) with support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation established the Africa Digital Health Innovations and Research Center of Excellence. The goal of the center of excellence is to identify how, and under what circumstances digital worker payments can support effective campaign delivery. The insights will inform operationalization of this work, and movement towards cross campaign digital payments. Additionally, it will enhance efforts to digitize payments for health workers by fostering and supporting evidence-based and evidence-driven decision making in Sub Saharan Africa.

The Africa Digital Health, Innovation and Research Center of Excellence at MakSPH will conduct data collection activities for a cross sectional observational study that seeks to determine the “Effectiveness of mobile money payments to vaccination campaign health care workers on polio vaccination campaign coverage and quality in Uganda” The center of excellence therefore seeks to hire 25 Research Assistants to implement data collection activities

Duties

  • Attend the training workshop for research assistants
  • Pre-test / piloting of the data collection tools
  • Introduce of the team at the district offices and presenting the signed copy of approval at lower level Administrative units for prior to data collection
  • Conduct consenting of participants; followed by administration of the tool
  • Upload data collected to the server at the end of each day
  • Comply with all requirements necessary for conducting a successful interview/observation – as elaborated in the training provided and also in the survey field manual.
  • Ensure all data collection tools are complete, and kept secure at all times
  • Protect all project equipment and ensure that they are all safe and accounted for
  • Participate in de-brief meetings after data collection

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Suitable applicants should possess relevant training in a health related discipline, social sciences Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from a recognized higher institution of learning
  • Should have experience in collecting data digitally using tablets
  • Should have experience in conducting health worker surveys
  • Demonstrated hands on experience in conducting high quality data collection.
  • Having worked as a research assistant and or research supervisor in an immunization specific public health project

Other skills and requirements

  • Proficiency in English (Speaking and Reading) and at least two local languages will be an added advantage
  • Prior experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to spend a period of time in rural areas and away from home
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and observe deadlines

 Period of contract: Short term

Remuneration: very competitive
