100 Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities at DUT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) is located on the warm east coast of South Africa. It sprawls over seven (7) campuses in tropical and picturesque Durban, and in Pietermaritzburg, with its undulating hills that flow over from the Drakensberg Mountain. DUT, a member of the International Association of Universities, is a multi-campus university of technology at the forefront of higher education, technological training, research, and innovation.

According to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) approved Research Output Sector Report, DUT ranked first among South African University of Technology’s (UoT’s) for publication output units by publication type in 2022, accounting for a 2.31% share of the overall sector units.

DUT is seeking vibrant candidates who are interested in working on innovative solutions to problems, to position the university as an anchor institution located firmly within the region, to transfer knowledge and research outputs for the benefit of society and its quad-helix partners. The Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis, considering the candidate’s academic achievements, potential as an independent researcher and the extent to which s/he meets the requirements of the call.

Candidates are expected to have good organisational skills and the ability to work on a tight schedule; be able to work independently and collaboratively; have strong research and a good record of high-quality publications; ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced academic environment; strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders; ability to deliver and manage face-to-face educational programmes while contributing to research and scholarship; ability to generate new novel research ideas and produce innovative research and the ability to write proposals for external funding.

REQUIREMENTS:
⦿ Applicants should have a PhD obtained within the last five years.
⦿ Evidence of Publishing at least 2 to 3 articles (and/or creative outputs) as part of their Doctorate.
⦿ Provide proof of a well-defined Research Focus Area and Plan that they will implement over a 3-year period.
(Annual renewals will be performance-based).
⦿ Identify a relevant research focus area or field at the University that their Research Focus Area aligns with.
⦿ Proven ability to write and publish papers in accredited peer-reviewed journals.
⦿ Commit to 3 years at DUT when appointed into a position.
⦿Should the candidate terminate the contract before then, they will be liable for a payback of benefits awarded to them as determined by the university.
