Education Management

WIU supports and manages 288 education institutions nationally (97 ECD centres, 162 Primary, 27 Secondary, 1 Vocational Training Centre (VTC), and 1 Community Technology Access (CTA) centre). This includes setting up temporary and permanent learning spaces, providing teaching and learning materials, recruitment, remuneration and general management of school personnel. Windle also provides ongoing professional development and on-the-job training for teachers. The teachers get training on teaching techniques, pedagogy, classroom management, and get psycho-social support through workshops, coaching, and mentoring.

WIU also provides scholastic materials like chalk, textbooks, charts, scheme books, and pens as well as furniture like desks and chairs, beds for the dormitories with mattresses, toys for children in the Early Child Development (ECD) centres, school uniforms and much more for the schools we support in the settlements. We support the functionality of school structures through the facilitation of regular school inspection by district officials and, the establishment and strengthening of school and education community structures such Parent Teachers Associations as well as School Management Committees.

Early Childhood Development

Investing in the early years is not only in the best interest of children, it is also key to developing human capital. Uganda’s future as a middle-income country depends on providing the tools for upward mobility and building an educated and skilled workforce. ECD is the most efficient way to accomplish this goal. For WIU investing in Pre-primary Education is our way of building a foundation that will set the pace for an able population for refugees upon repatriation and for host communities to be self-dependent.

Primary Education

Primary education is the incubator for the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators. At WIU providing access to quality Primary Education means creating safe learning environments and identifying and placing the most qualified and talented teachers and administration to nurture the next generation of leaders. Over 28 years we have registered increased enrollment rates and great improvements in learners’ performance which is an assurance of transition to the next levels of education.

Secondary education

Secondary education is a crucial level of education as it combines personal and skills development for children who are at life-determining ages. It allows individuals to expand their choice and to improve personal and work-related skills whilst creating a pool of qualified people with the knowledge and skills to contribute significantly to economic development. With over 25 years of experience, we know and understand the need for Secondary education to be holistic, and it is for this reason that we have been championing the vocationalisation of Secondary Education since 2017. Vocationalisation of secondary education increases school enrollment, and improves retention, completion and transition rates to the next education level. For our Persons of Concern, this innovation is paying off given the high costs of Higher Education that many of them cannot afford.
