Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University International Injuries Research Unit with funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies is undertaking a study aimed at understanding the risk factors for road traffic injuries in Kampala. The study is titled, ‘Observational studies on helmet use, speeding, seat-belt and child restraint in Kampala, Uganda.’

The project seeks to recruit twelve (12) research assistants to support the implementation of its activities. They will work under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator. 

Job Title:  Research Assistant 

Number of positions: Twelve (12) 

Duties. 

The project Research Assistants will be responsible for the implementation of the project activities, including the following: 

 

  1. Attending all training and pretesting activities 
  2. Collecting data at the selected observation sites during the stipulated times and days III.
  3. Ensuring safe custody of equipment 
  4. Ensuring prompt submission of data to the allotted server V.            
  5. Providing daily field updates on data collection
  6. Participate in the development of daily field reports 
  7. Performing any other duties relevant to this position as may be assigned from time to time  

Qualifications and Desirable Qualities  

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in Uganda most preferably in health sciences or social sciences 
  2. Demonstrated experience with mobile data collection 
  3. Experience working in at least one research project as a research assistant in the last two years. 
  4. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills. 
  5. Must be willing to work beyond official working hours and under strict timelines.
  6. Ability to work in teams
  7. Is a resident Kampala (Most preferably Rubaga, Kawempe & Makindye divisions)

Experience with observational data collection and a valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice and or Human Subject Research are added advantages. 

 Terms of Service:  

This exercise is expected to last one month including weekends between 10th October 2022 & 30th November 2022.   

 

Level of Effort:    

The research assistants will be expected to devote 100% of their time to the project. Although the MakSPH observes all official hours of work and public holidays, this particular exercise will involve working on weekends and public holidays, and work could start earlier and end later than regular working hours.
