Background
Efficient monitoring and surveillance are cornerstones to tracking the progress of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) burden, related risk factors, and the effectiveness of policy interventions. The systematic monitoring of risk factors to generate accurate and timely data is essential for a country’s ability to prioritize essential resources and make sound policy decisions to address the growing NCD burden. With increasing access and use of mobile phones globally, opportunities exist to use mobile phone technology as an interim method to collect data and supplement infrequent household surveys.
With support from the National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Inc. (CDC Foundation), Makerere School of Public Health (MakSPH) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), have completed a national Mobile Phone Survey (MPS) on risk factors for NCDs. The research team will be conducting a 3-day data analysis workshop focusing on the sampling methodology used, use of the Surveda platform to transmit the survey through mobile phones, application of sampling weights, and the data analysis strategy.
The training is intended for individuals interested in understanding our survey methodology, and/or individuals who may use the resulting dataset in the future, and/or individuals involved in conducting similar population based surveys. The training will be conducted from 23rd through 25th August 2023 starting at 9:00 to 5:00 pm each day. A limited number of training slots are open to those interested.
