Position Overview

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is seeking two Training and Research Interns to support the implementation of the Uganda Social Innovation in Health Programme (SIHI Uganda). The internships are designed to offer hands-on experience in research, program coordination, and training delivery, with a focus on community-based health innovation.


Objectives of the Internship

  1. Capacity Building and Learning
    Strengthen the implementation, innovation, and learning capacity of community-based health projects in Uganda to improve health, particularly sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
  2. Linkage and Advocacy
    Facilitate connections between grassroots health innovators and policymakers, local donors, ministries, and other stakeholders to enhance policy uptake, implementation, and scale-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying social innovation health projects nationwide using the SIHI open-call model.
    Tasks include: designing innovation identification materials, setting up online data tools, developing communication plans, disseminating calls, reviewing submissions, and supporting the selection of top solutions.
  • Support the planning and delivery of fellowship workshops under the Social Innovation Fellowship Programme.
  • Work with trainees to track learning and completion of six deliverables per trainee/project across training modules using both physical and online platforms.
  • Contribute to research on community-based health projects using implementation and case study research approaches.
  • Support the organization of regional and national dissemination workshops to share findings and strengthen stakeholder linkages.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, or a related field, with a focus on research methods and/or monitoring and evaluation of programs.
  • Additional experience in lecturing, conducting research, or managing health-related projects will be an added advantage.
