Project Summary
In Uganda, blood and its components, such as platelets and plasma, are critical medical products that can only be obtained from healthy and voluntary donors. The Uganda Blood Transfusion Services needs 1,666 units of blood daily to meet the country’s demand, but is only able to collect under 1,000 units due to challenges ranging from access to funding and logistics. Our project approach focused on increasing knowledge and awareness, as well as boosting blood quantities donated in Uganda by using high-impact communication strategies among secondary school students. Overall, we aimed at determining the effect of age-appropriate high-impact IEC materials on blood donation awareness, willingness, and intention to donate blood among secondary school students in Uganda.
