Position Overview
Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is seeking a Postdoctoral Training and Research Coordinator to support the Uganda Social Innovation in Health Programme (SIHI Uganda). The position aims to strengthen implementation research and capacity-building efforts in community-based health innovation to improve health outcomes in Uganda.
Objectives of the Position
- Capacity Building and Learning:
To identify and strengthen the implementation, innovation, and learning capacity of community-based health projects in Uganda, with a focus on health and sexual and reproductive health outcomes. - Linkage and Advocacy:
To connect community-based health innovators with policymakers, key ministries, local donors, and other stakeholders to enhance implementation, support policy uptake, and facilitate scale-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage program workplans and deliverables.
- Identify existing social innovation health projects across Uganda using the SIHI open call approach.
- Lead the capacity-building Social Innovation Fellowship Programme, including development and delivery of six key modules:
- Social Innovation in Health and Entrepreneurship
- Effective Project Management
- Research Approaches and Tools for Social Innovation
- Individual Monitoring and Evaluation/Research Project
- Effective Communication and Fundraising
- Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing (short course)
- Lead research on selected community-based health projects using implementation and case study research methods.
- Update protocols, manage ethics approvals, coordinate data collection and analysis (with support from research officers).
- Organize and lead regional and national dissemination workshops to share research findings and foster stakeholder engagement.
- Explore and initiate partnerships with local donors to secure additional support for social innovation projects and related research.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A PhD in Public Health obtained within the last 5 years.
- A Master’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, or a related field, with strong focus on research methods and/or monitoring and evaluation.
- Proven experience in teaching at undergraduate or master’s level.
- Demonstrated experience managing health-related programs.
