Dr. John Bosco Isunju (BEH, MIWRM, PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health at Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). His expertise spans climate and health, environmental pollution, geospatial health, disaster risk reduction, infection prevention and control (IPC), occupational safety and health, and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Dr. Isunju recently led the Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment (VAA) and the development of Uganda’s Health National Adaptation Plan (H-NAP).
At Makerere University, Dr. Isunju serves as the Programme Coordinator for the Taught Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health and is the Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) cluster Lead for the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA). He is also a member of the Grants and Research Capacity Building Committee and is the Secretary for the MakSPH Research and Ethics Committee (REC). Additionally, he is a Focal Person and Board Member for the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA).
Dr. Isunju is a Ministerial appointee to the WHO Global Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH) and chairs the Board of Directors at the Hardman Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (HIOSH). He has collaborated with prominent organizations such as the Rockefeller Foundation, WHO, Seed Global Health, Path Finder, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), GIZ, USAID, Regenerate Africa, Amref Health Africa, and various Ugandan government ministries.
