Dr. Vincent Michael Kiberu is a Research Associate in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). With over eight years of experience in health informatics and telemedicine, he teaches and mentors postgraduate students in health informatics, ICT, public health, and data science. Dr. Kiberu holds a PhD in Telemedicine from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Master's in Information Technology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from Makerere University, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science. He has enhanced his expertise through various short courses in health systems data science, medical informatics, R programming, and machine learning.
My work focuses on telehealth, mHealth, data analytics, decision support systems, system interoperability, and artificial intelligence. I have led multiple projects funded by organizations like UK Research and Innovation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I have also played a key role in developing curricula for Makerere University’s Master's programs in Health Data Science and Health Informatics, as well as the Public Health Informatics curriculum for Uganda’s Public Health Fellowship Program. A member of the American Telemedicine Association and the International Society of Telemedicine and eHealth, I also review journals such as the Panafrican Medical Journal and the Journal of Innovative Digital Transformations. My technical skills include SQL, R, Python, STATA, Power BI, Tableau, Google Analytics, and advanced Excel.
