Event Details

You are invited to this important online event, that presents an opportunity to examine the indirect health effects of COVID-19 with evidence from Kenya & Uganda.

So far, the Ministry of Health and Public Health Specialists are anticipating the 2nd wave of COVID-19.

Following Uganda's COVID-19 case reported on 21st March 2020, authorities responded by instituting a lockdown and other measures. There were reports of negative effects of the response on health services but with little research work.

Now, Dr. Nazarius Tumwesigye, Associate Professor at MakSPH, and colleagues Okethwangu Denis, Mary Kaakyo, Claire Biribawa assessed the effects of the COVID-19 containment measures on health services to better inform the next preventive measures.

The intervention, according to the researchers significantly affected the level and trends of Malaria-OPD and Immunization. The preliminary findings show that attendance to health services reduced at the start of lockdown and then rose after it was relaxed, sometime in June which has serious ramifications on the overall health score.
