Haron Gichuhi is a Epidemiological and Computational Modelling Expert and a Research Associate in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). He holds a BSc in Software Engineering from Bugema University and an MSc in Health Informatics from Makerere University. Haron’s research spans predictive modeling, network science, digital health, data analytics, clinical decision support, and machine learning. He has led projects funded by UNICEF, USAID, PEPFAR, US CDC, WHO, Gates Foundation, and Africa CDC, focusing on tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, sepsis, malaria, and nutrition.
In monitoring and evaluation, Haron designs frameworks to assess project performance, enhancing the impact of interventions in resource-limited settings. His contributions to curriculum development include Makerere’s MSc Health Data Science programme and the Africa CDC Health Informatics curriculum, in partnership with the University of Washington I-TECH and the TAP African Epidemic Services Public Health Informatics Fellowship (AES-PHI). He is a member of the Health Informatics in Africa Network (HELINA), the WHO/IBP Network, and reviews PLOS ONE, Global Public Health, and Digital Health journals. Haron’s technical expertise includes GIS, R, Python, STATA, SQL, DHIS2, OpenMRS, OHDSI, Power BI, and Tableau.
