About this Program

The Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) formerly the Makerere University Institute of Public Health (MUIPH) has reviewed and updated the curriculum for the Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (BEHS) degree programme. The BEHS curriculum being reviewed has been in operation since the beginning of the programme in the year 2000. As a University requirement, all curriculums of University programmes have to be reviewed periodically to make them relevant to the prevailing and future demands.

The major aim of the BEHS is to prepare professionals in Environmental Health with the appropriate attitude, adequate skills and a scientific knowledge for handling and managing all duties and technical procedures in the broad areas of health promotion, disease prevention and control, management and administration of public health in community, research and training in the field of Environmental Health.

As this field is an essential component of the Public health systems for health promotion and delivery in the community, its services are basic to the processes of diagnosis and surveillance of disease incidence in the community and to the procedures of disease prevention and control.
