Prof Barnabas Nawangwe Hands Over to Acting DVCFA Prof William Bazeyo

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe on Friday 15th September 2017 handed over office as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) to Prof. William Bazeyo our outgoing Dean.

According to the Chairperson of Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, Prof. William Bazeyo with a track record in resource mobilization and frugal financial management will serve in this capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A).

The handover ceremony took place in the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A) and was presided over by Mr. Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, Chairman Appointments Board who represented the Chairperson of the University Council, Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem.

In his hand over remarks, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe congratulated Prof. William Bazeyo upon being appointed the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) effective 1st September 2017 and wished him a successful tenure.

Prof. Nawangwe commended the University Council for quickly identifying a suitable person to replace him adding that the office of Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A) is a busy one.

Prof. Nawangwe said that by choosing Prof. Bazeyo as the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A), the University Council identified the best resource mobiliser. He pledged to fully support Prof. William Bazeyo in the execution of duties.

The following Officers attended the handover meeting: The Chairperson Finance, Planning, Administration and Investment Committee (FPAIC), Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs - Dr. Okello-Ogwang,  The Academic Registrar- Mr. Alfred Masikye-Namoah, The University Bursar–Mr. Augustine Tamale, The Director Legal- Goddy Muhanguzi Muhumuza, The Acting Director Internal Audit-Mr. Benson Barigye; among others.

In his remarks, Prof. Bazeyo thanked the University Council for giving him another opportunity to serve Makerere University in a different capacity.
Prof. Bazeyo revealed that he was planning to go back to teaching after his deanship at the School of Public Health, College of Health. His 8-year tenure as Dean School of Public Health ends next week.

Prof. Bazeyo promised to give his best to Makerere University, where he has spent most of his productive years. He pledged to use his tested and proven resource mobilization skills to raise money for Makerere University.

Mr. Kabaasa said that after the installation of Prof. Nawangwe as Vice Chancellor, the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (F&A) fell vacant and the University Council had to quickly identify someone to fill the gap.

Mr. Kabaasa on behalf of the University Council assured Prof. Bazeyo that the University system will be kept open to allow him continue with his innovative ways of resource mobilization.
