In April 2024, USAID's Agency for All Project hosted an interactive course, "Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Programming: Integrating Agency, Social Norms, and Gender." Enthusiastic participants came to Kampala, Uganda from Eastern Africa, West Africa, and South Asia regions, and they had much to share about their experience during the week of in-person learning.

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) captured some of the diverse perspectives and reflections on moving beyond knowledge to locally-defined and led action on SBC.

The course was co-developed by the African Society for Social & Behavior Change, Makerere University, and University of the Witwatersrand, who share an interest in moving beyond knowledge to locally-defined and led action, with networks that are proudly located and grounded in the Global South.

This course brought together social and behavior change practitioners and researchers to network with each other and explore how we can better integrate agency, social norms, and gender in our work. We were overwhelmed with interest in the course, and look forward to hosting a second, regionally-adapted course in India in July.
