The Cluster of Research Excellence in Preparedness and Response to Pandemics and Shocks at Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) received funding from CDC Foundation through AFENET to conduct the Mortality Surveillance Project titled “Strengthening Death Notification and Reporting in Kalangala and Buvuma Districts in Uganda”. MakSPH therefore seeks to recruit highly experienced and competent Research Assistants (RAs) to support the implementation of the study.

Qualifications and Experience
- At least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution with a health background (environmental health, public health, nursing, MCBhB) and/or humanities such as social sciences
- A Masters’ degree is an added advantage
- Should have good experience in conducting Key Informant Interviews, Focus Group Discussions and In-depth Interviews
- At least 1 years’ experience in Qualitative and Quantitative Data Collection
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and stringent guidelines
- A valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice and or Human Subject Research is an added advantage
- Ability to read, speak and write in English and Luganda
- Experience in transcription and translation
- Paying attention to detail
Duties
- Attend all trainings and participate in all preparatory activities prior to data collection
- Conduct recruitment of study participants
- Explain the need for the study to the respondents and obtain their consent to take part in it; then administer questions/ interviews in-person
- Record accurate and thorough responses using appropriate electronic devices/recorders
- Ensure confidentiality of all collected data
- Exercise courtesy and professionalism while interacting with respondents
- Safely store collected data obtained from interviews/ surveys for completeness and accuracy, before submission
- Transcribe ad translate the data collected as audio files
- Meet regularly with the supervisor to turn in the survey results/ interview data on an on-going basis
- Notify management incase an electronic device or other study equipment is missing or is not
Duration of engagement: 2 weeks.
