Background:
Tree Adoption Uganda in collaboration with Makerere University with support from Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health are implementing the Data Science Research Training to Strengthen Evidence-Based Health Innovation, Intervention and Policy (MakDARTA) program (U2RTW012116). As part of this program, a few selected MSc students will receive training on climate and Health Data Science.
Course Description:
Utilizing data science techniques, participants will learn how to analyze climate, health, agricultural, and food security datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and correlations. Hands-on exercises and case studies will provide practical experience in data collection, management, analysis, and interpretation within the context of climate change and health research. By highlighting the urgent need for research and action in this area, the course seeks to inspire and empower participants to contribute to evidence-based solutions that mitigate the impacts of climate change on human health in Uganda, utilizing the power of data science to drive innovation, intervention, and policy development.
Mode of delivery:
Hybrid - Through online lectures / short courses, and a physical ideathon.
Eligibility:
Applicants must;
1. Be students enrolled in a related Master’s Degree program such as Master of Computer Science, Master of Health Informatics, Master of Climate Change, Master of Applied Meteorology.
2. Have a Climate and Health concept for their dissertation.
